A different May Day

May Day, Labour Day: Red flags, placards claiming social justice, fair salaries, rights for the unprotected... Well, not in France.

While a few French went to a demonstration to demand more and better jobs and an enhanced welfare state, the main event was happening on Place dell'Opera, where thousands of followers of anti-immigration leader Le Pen gathered to accuse all foreigners of any past, present and future problem of France, the greatest of all civilisations ever.

The same day that millions of immigrants took with no fear the streets of the main cities of the US of A to show their power and demand civil rights, foreigners in Paris like me were appalled to watch the display of pride of a bunch of racists who had no shame in declaring French civilisation as superior to any other and demanding the deportation of all foreigners.

This is France, ladies and gentleman. Can you imagine such an individual in Germany? In Italy? The French won this award for having "won" WWII?

Recently, a poll found that one third of French are not ashamed of openly recognising that they are racists (imagine the real figure...). See the details at this link: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1600698/posts

The International Herald Tribune, Reuters and the NY Times both cover the rally of supporters of Le Pen yesterday:

Le Pen is saying that if he doesn't win the next election it is because his opponents are copying his manifesto on immigration.

He is right.

'Recently, a poll found that one third of French are not ashamed of openly recognising that they are racists'

I think the French themselves said it!!!

Mais oui, the French have always declared their superiority to other nations, they have a long history of doing so.

Listen to the way they speak about Belgium.

The E.U can't work if the Europeans can't even agree or get along.

I think Le Pen's popularity is due to riots and un checked immigration.

But let's not forget, Le Pen is not the only one of his kind in Europe.

Up to a quarter of voters are considering supporting the far right British National party, according to a draft report for a social policy research group.
The authors of the study for the Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust said today that feelings of "powerlessness and frustration" with the main political parties had led to increasing numbers indicating that they might vote for the BNP.

The claims follow a warning by the employment minister, Margaret Hodge, that disillusioned white, working-class voters were deserting Labour for the BNP. She said that as many as eight out of 10 white families in her Barking constituency in east London admitted that they were tempted to vote BNP in forthcoming council elections.

You say that "Up to a quarter of voters are considering supporting the BNP"... Well, in France, up to one third didn't even considered voting for Le Pen in the last presidential election, THEY DID VOTE FOR HIM!

On the other hand, whereas the BNP is the only party of this type in the UK, anti-immigrant slogans in France are shared by plenty of people, from Le Pen to Sarkozy. If they got united under a "FNP" (French National Party), they could for sure rule France with a comfortable 90% share (like in "V for Vendetta" huh?).

And by the way, people didn't start voting for Le Pen after the riots.

I didn't say people started VOTING for Le Pen after the riots, I said I think his popularity is due to riots and MANY OTHER things.

In no way am I defending this idiot, only pointing out the truth.

The last election saw a choice between a crook(Chirac) and an anti semite(Le Pen), not a very good choice for France sadly.

Whilst Europeans worry about the local McDonalds, their European identity is being challenged by the strongest growing religion in Europe- Islam.

By midcentury, at least one in five Europeans will be Muslim.

BTW,you talk about anti immigrant slogans in France, what do you have to say about the people "protesting" in Trafalgar Square with signs that read "God Bless Hitler"?

Hey guys les't admit it!!! we all have a certain and little pice of racism, but hey BEING STUPID and racist as the Frenchies are!!! MAN!!! that's to much!!!! HOME-RUN boddy!!!!

Some comments, I have talked to some collegues in the US and well, they I could say are kind of smart guys doing their second PhD in really specific stuff so I give them some credit for their comments and because they are really good friends , that inmigrant protest in the US it's correct if they ask for the required rights in payment and humman rights. But hey C'mon, they want to be legalized as americans and being count as americans, but you can not reach that goal if you are waving the flag of Mexico, Guatemala and other latinian countries just in front of the Whitehouse!!! mygosh... that's really funny... so I think if they want to be americans, at least they should be ask to use our flag and respect the US flag, showing their love US, even hey have different backgounds and origins.

Le Pen's great strategic point and strategy is being racist, that's it!!! really simple. It is really easy to blame inmigrants of all Frenchies-Wannabies problems!! really easy and really practic!! hey I do blame to the stupid outsourcing some times just in order to get some time at projects!!! they are soooo stupid... incredible stupids, that they can not see they are the tail in our lovely EU... example, so dummy Frenchi posted: "nonymous said...

Hey Uranus, why don't you blog in your own language, your English is abyssmal! Hey, and while you're at it, why don't you go and live in your own country. " ---->diagnostic: A Frenchi-wannabie being STUPID and racist!!!

Do you need a better example:
1.- English is the most important language all around in business!!
2.- Man we are her to make you stupid economi work as it is working, don't think your finance and all the benefits are done with the work of Frenchies NO WAY!!! we have to kick asses every day of lazzy frenchis that are all time complaining of EVERYTHING!!!! man just BE productive!!!!

so, well, not a notice that in Labour day the Frenchis blame to the inmigrants... cuz they are soo stupids that they can not see they are the support for their old economy...

Man, I hope next time the company send me to work to Denmark, Sweden or London... cuz we all are racist but RACIST + STUPID + ARROGANT!!! well, you have Frenchies-wannabies...or at least the ones in Paris... man I think I am gonna fire one more sucker here at the company... they need more people for riots!!!! I will give them one!!!

Cheers and keep postin, it is really nice your blog man... lots of fun

The wait is over!

Out of around 4100 council seats, the British National Party (yes, that BNP that 'up to a quarter' thought of voting) got 32! That is 0.7 per cent!

There's a long way ahead for the BNP if they want to gain in Britain the favour that French racist parties have from French voters.

This is a logical outcome: British civilisation isn't racist, whereas Frech is.

The French FN alone got in the last election (many years before 'the riots') 17 per cent in the first round. It was secont to Chirac who got 20 per cent.
